Envisioning a more inclusive engagement approach for a regional transit authority.
THE CHALLENGE
In recognition of the diverse and shifting demographics of Metro Vancouver, TransLink wanted to build a more inclusive engagement practice that is responsive to the diverse needs of its customers; the first step of which is to explore what an engagement practice guided by the themes of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA) could look like for TransLink.
THE RESPONSE
The process began with an IDEA Visioning Workshop in December 2018 with TransLink staff from Government and Public Affairs, Planning, and Access Transit. Staff ideas, along with best practices in IDEA engagement, were used to develop the IDEA Engagement Strategy, including a draft vision, guiding principles and goals. The draft IDEA Strategy was reviewed with TransLink staff in a second workshop In January 2019 and finalized after incorporating staff comments and feedback.
